Hi everyone

Johnny and I have been pretty busy behind the scenes working in the school. We have had a change of bit and done a lot of groundwork to get Johnny fit, along with working on improving his self-carriage. He is a horse that is on the forehand a lot, hence why he never made the grade as a racehorse.

We love being on the farm and the now cut silage fields are the perfect place to work in. We have been using some new Cavaletti equipment to engage his hocks and getting him to use his big hind end. We have also worked with the Passoa, which has encouraged him to work into the contact. His condition is starting to improve and his top line is coming along nicely.

The main reason for all of this extra ground work is that we have qualified for two major championships in the ex-racehorse world at the end of summer. We decided to take a trip to the East coast a couple of weeks ago for the South Durham showing group. We entered  two classes and came away with two second places. I was over the moon with Johnny as it was a red hot day with no airflow and we had a long three hour journey each way.

We have decided that although Johnny has qualified for the ROR championships in August, we are going to aim for the Horse and Country championships at Netherton in September instead. This has always been a great show and one I enjoy attending.

Over the next few weeks we have plans for more beach rides and some x-country schooling before we attend camp in July. I'm really looking forward to this as it's the first time I've been away on a horse holiday with Johnny

I'll be back soon to update you all on how the schooling and fitness work is coming along.

Lots of love Jess and Johnny x
